Guide: Finding a profitable pillage target (for new players)I hear lots of newer players saying how they have trouble finding profitable pillage targets and having trouble with pillaging in general, please only reply to this if you have something helpful to add that is on topic to this guide or if you have questions regarding it =)

First Steps
When finding a target to pillage your first step should always be to spy their town, to do this you must have researched espionage and built a hidout where in you can train spies (at very early stages of play however you may not be able to do this as espionage takes a little while to get to in the research tree). It is worth sending spies to many potential targets and sorting through them to find the ideal one (start with inactive towns). To send a spy to a town click on the town in island view and select send spy.

Once you've sent your spy and it has arrived at the town in your hidout you are given an option with missions you can undertake, however before conducting any missions dublu click on the town you have a spy in from the island view and it will allow you to see the buildings within the town the only building of importance to you at this point is the trading port as each level allows you to pillage a set amount from the player:

Trading Port: Pillage
Level 1: 200 resources (1 trade ship)
Level 2: 600 resources (2 trade ships)
Level 3: 1160 resources (4 trade ships)
Level 4: 1840 resources (7 trade ships)
Level 5: 2620 resources (9 trade ships)
Level 6: 3520 resources (12 trade ships)
Level 7: 4500 resources (15 trade ships)
Level 8: 5580 resources (19 trade ships)
Level 9: 6720 resources (23 trade ships)
Level 10: 7960 resources (27 trade ships)
Level 11: 9280 resources (31 trade ships)
Level 12: 10660 resources (36 trade ships)

Generally unless they have no defense and are on your island level 1 and level 2 ports will not be profitable and you can remove your spy from the towns without having to conduct any missions.

Once you find a town with a port level 3 or above (Preferably) it's time to check defense, to do this go into your hidout and scroll down to the spy in the town you wish to check choose missions and select spy garrison.

If it's successful you will have an idea of how the army size in the town if it says your spy doesn't answer anymore it was unsuccessful and your spy is gone in this case you can either send another spy and try again or if you can afford to lose a slinger send a single slinger at their town to recieve a combat report telling you how much defense they have (this will also tell them who plans to get them where as a spy being captured only gives limited information so only attack people you believe you can overwhelm). Once you know the size of their army you must decide whether the size of their port is worth killing an army for profitwise, if the army is small and the port is size 4+ you may wish to overwhelm it if the army is large you may wish to move to the next town option. Consider: an inactive town will not rebuild army so overwhelming it will be a one time thing where as an active town may rebuild meaning freqent resistance.

If your spy is alive you may wish to also spy out their warehouse to see if they have plenty to pillage (if risk of being caught is over 35% wait a while for it to lower before conducting this mission) however resources will always be generated so port size is more important than current stocks when choosing a long term target. If the target has a significant army to overwhelm then it would be worth checking current resource stocks to see whether the pillage will be worth it.

When overwhelming an army it is worth the extra upkeep gold to send an army of overkill size than to lose many soldiers by sending an army of equal size to theirs (there are many guides to attacking).

Pillaging for Gold
If you're in need of gold and are looking for a target to pillage merely for gold the amount of gold you recieve from them is related to town hall size and the amount of gold they have:

Town Hall Level: Percentage of Gold stock recieved
Level 1: 0% (according to the calculation, however i havn't tested it)
Level 2: 0.02% (2g for every 10000g)
Level 3: 0.06% (6g for every 10000g)
Level 4: 0.12% (12g for every 10000g)
Level 5: 0.20% (20g for every 10000g)
Level 6: 0.30% (30g for every 10000g)
Level 7: 0.42% (42g for every 10000g)
Level 8: 0.56% (56g for every 10000g)
Level 9: 0.72% (72g for every 10000g)
Level 10: 0.90% (90g for every 10000g)
Level 11: 1.10% (110g for every 10000g)
Level 12: 1.32% (132g for every 10000g)
Level 13: 1.56% (156g for every 10000g)
Level 14: 1.82% (182g for every 10000g)
Level 15: 2.10% (210g for every 10000g)
Level 16: 2.40% (240g for every 10000g)

To work out how much you'll get from a person find out how much they have by looking up their name under gold stocks on the high score table then divide that amount by 100 then miltiply it by the percentage in the table above (i.e. level 2 port = amount of gold / 100 x 0.02). The percentage is worked out by the equation TH level x (TH level -1) / 100 i.e. level 16 town would be 16 x 15 / 100 = 2.4%

Pillaging Pre-espionage
All i can suggest for the early stages of the game before you can spy your targets is to use a single slinger to scount defense but preference inactive towns as they are unlikely to come back and retaliate for other towns it's a matter of luck. Essentially pillaging becomes a far easier and safer task once you have researched espionage. However on a server that is just starting up if you are quick to build up an army those around you are unlikely to have one to rival yours so you can send a few slingers around to gauge potential targets.

Hope this guide is of use to some newer players. These are the methods that have worked for me it is not the only way to play and you may want to do it different. Any suggestions for other situations or chapters are welcome, any non-constructive critisism from seasoned players with their own methods is unwelcome.

If you have the time please rate the guide 1 way or the other and if you dislike it suggest the ways i can improve it in the future, Thanks

Singura problema la acest ghid e ca nu mai merge faza cu trimis o singura unitate pentru a vedea ce armata are respectivul: dupa noile modificari, daca ai luat bataie din întâia runda nu-mi mai arata in raport raportul de forte.
